A Visit to the Mushroom Farm....

It's a visit that I have been looking forward to! Probably because I'm a mushroom lover and I hoped to get some real fresh mushrooms back for my girl (since she is a mushroom lover too!)

As such, I became quite worried when it started drizzling....Luckily, the visit went on and was not cancelled!

The farm that we were visiting today is located at Jalan Kayu. For more details on how to get there, please refer to the following site: http://www.mycofarm.com.sg/

We had a guided tour by the friendly staff there. She introduced us to the 4 different types of mushrooms grown on the farm i.e. Emperor Shiitake, Japanese Oyster Hiratake, White Oyster Mushroom and Willow Mushroom.
The Emperor Shiitake mushroom (shown below) is grown on oak logs. Hence, it got its name 'Shii' (oak tree) 'take' (mushroom). However, in the more modern mushroom farms, Shiitake mushrooms are grown in plastic-bag logs filled with wood substrate and have become one of the most popular cultivated mushrooms. Shiitake is known to enhance the immune system, aiding the body to fight infection and disease, and is gaining ground in the medical world for its anti-tumor qualities. Therefore, one should try and eat more of it :)

*According to the staff, the more white patches, the more nutrients there is. So she has advised us not to 'wash' it away!* - Uploaded on 26 Jul 2010

The white oyster mushroom got its name cos of its oyster-shell shape. *The one behind is the white oyster mushroom* - Uploaded on 26 Jul 2010

And this is the Willow mushroom! It's very fragile and we will advised not to touch it as it can just fall off easily!

*Nice and cute :)* - Uploaded on 26 Jul 2010

This is where the mushrooms are grown. Different house will have different temperatures to suit the different requirements of the mushrooms!

And, this is how the mushrooms are grown. Erkk....the 'smell' can be rather strong!

Check out the cute mushrooms in the farm ->

1 "Wedding" & A "Funeral"

Our heartfelt congrats goes out to Princess Feli where she finally made the decision to go for it and yes, she has made it. Made it where? Made it to the next step of the corporate ladder :)

While the whole palace is joyful for her, we are also secretly preparing for our "funeral" :( Sigh....how is the remaining knight and princess + me, the queen gonna tahan without her :( I must say all the royal subjects of our palace are rare gems! Yes, all of you are! You are one who -> has low or even zero MC
-> is meticulous and careful with work
-> takes pride in your work
-> is super responsible
-> grumbles at things but on the other hand still working hard at it
-> is "zi dong" and works OT when necessary
-> provides fun and laughter to the palace which made it warm and vibrant
-> likes to talk back at times and hee sometimes, these "talk back" does make sense
-> has positive attitude towards work, working partners and friends

Ahhh....where to find another gem like all of you leh? Can you be cloned?

Best regards,
Queen Cyn

The moon was blue before CNY....

and strange things happen when the moon was blue........

Our Queen Cyn who was famous for her untidy workstation piled with tonnes of paper, rubbish and other stuff, managed to clear up her workstation just before CNY. Check out this rare sight as nice things are not lasting and the blue moon might only come back during CNY 2011....

Nasi Alamak!

The royal family had ordered nasi lemak for lunch each costing $3 in support of a charity event by CSC. Yesterday was the nasi lemak day. We were quite excited as we can do charity and lunch together as a team at the same time. But to our disgust.. the nasi lemak was a dissapointment... The rice was hard... the egg was sour.... the cucumber was also sour (not sure if it went bad or it was pickled)... the chilli looked and tasted weird (the taste was not abit like chilli at all)... I can only say the nasi lemak was a total disaster.

The only one from the royal family to escape this disaster was our new royal head, Concubine GC(although she wanted to be a Ya Huan but that doesn't suits her at all so she shall remains as concubine hehe). Our blur Princess Feli had missed out 1 order (we don't understand why since there's only 6 orders haha). Concubine GC was very kind to give up hers and she will buy from outside instead since she was going out to run some errands. This is the so called 好心有好报.. but don't understand why this doesn't work for us since we were also doing good deeds by buying nasi lemak for charity....

New Stuff for the New Year

Hee....Queen Cyn is always up to something! Yes yes, I agree totally! Where fun is concerned, my brain juice will always be overflowing hee!

So guess what? I have indicated a wishlist corner for the Royal Family, well except for Dowager G which I'm not sure if she is interested in it too?

Anyway, the purpose of the wishlist is to make everyone happy and life easy for the person getting the gift. At least, we are buying something that the recipient has been wanting to get :) It would be best if you could indicate the price of the item and where we can find it (to faciliate our shopping). In the event if the price is out of our budget, we will probably get vouchers up to our budget and the rest is up to you hee :P

Anyone has any other great ideas, please feel free to share! We are open for discussion hee!

Best regards,
Queen Cyn
